Valencia Pride unbalanced

Valenica Pride
Though healthy, a side view shows how she's is lop-sided. I would like to try notching on her to try to get branches on the opposite side of the new growth but am hesitant.

Carrie update; July 29th, 2011

Carrie Mango
About six new buds are appearing. Will keep an eye on how it flushes out.
From the other side.

Julie update; July 29th, 2011

Julie #4
Since pinching/slicing off the tip Julie #4 is about to push out three growths from what I can see. Cool!

Julie #1
My first Julie's growth is steadily getting better. Though difficult to see, there are three shoots on her.

Update July 15th, 2011

The 'Valencia Pride grafted onto Manila' experiment
Well, the scion is showing signs of shriveling. I hope this is normal and that the grafting will take.

Valencia Pride
Growing.

Edward II
Edward's new leaves don't look like they will be growing any bigger. Its already showing signs that its raising the leaves and hardening off. Its interesting that the top growth has a reddish color while the growth from the bottom were light green. Hmmm.

Julie #1
My first Julie is continuing to show signs of recovery. I can't believe Julie has survived.

Carrie
After cutting off more from the top, she is showing signs of new buds. Hurray!

Update July 10th, 2011

Edward II
Edward's leaves continue to lengthen and I am now wondering about the overall shape as it grows. Might have to prune to control shape.

Graham
Graham is really doing well. I pinched off the tips to encourage branching.

Pruned Valencia Pride and more…

Valencia Pride
Well, I finally bit the bullet and pruned her two branches shorter. I feel it will make Vp into a nice bushier tree.
VP is pushing a new flush of growth; I hope it doesn't cause her to reject her two pruned branches?

I grafted Valencia Pride's cut branch onto Manila. I cut Manila and did a cleft graft. I don't think I did a good job, so it will be a miracle if it survives. The other branch (not pictured here) is in a glass of water with KLN and superlicious sugar added to it.

I read from another blog that someone successfully rooted Manila by sticking it into a pot of soil. So, I took the upper piece I cut off, treated it with KLN and stuck it into one of my plastic bottle seedling containers. Hope it works.
Fun.

Update July 7th, 2011

Edward II
Happy Edward is looking alive!

Graham
Graham is making big leaves. His growth has aborted the smaller shoots that were appearing on its stem. Too bad.

Julie
I sliced off the upper most tip of Julie to get her to branch out next flush of growth.

Valencia Pride
I want to prune VP's two longer branches but it would mean loosing all that new growth above. What to do?

Pickering
I sliced off the tip of Pickering in the hopes of getting it to start multi-branching.

Carrie
I pruned carrie shorter in the hopes of encouraging better branching.

Lancetilla
Here is Lance alive and growing.

Update July 5th, 2011

Edward II
Wow, over 4 days there has been a lot of growth on Edward. Couldn't believe it. I wish I set up my D200 with interval timer to get time lapse photography with it.
This photo was taken with my old canon handheld. Kind of crappy picture.
