My Maha Chanok and Julie harvest!

My Maha ripened and fell off my little tree. There was a lot of rain so my fruit has splitting.

Julie had also show splitting from too much rain. It was ripe so I ate it. It was delicious.

 

 

Yeah!

My Manila didn't die.

Mango update; May 18th.

Graham, Carrie, Valencia Pride & Lancetilla

Four of my mango trees got really bad damage from the cold and they had to be severely pruned.

'Valencia Pride' got chopped to about 11 inches. It's regenerating though.

'Carrie' was chopped down to about 3 inches of the graft line. It's growing back.

Poor 'Graham' was cut down to near the graft line. Its growing back and I can see it's 'Turpentine' rootstock is putting out a shoot. I cut off the tip of that.

'Lancetilla' was also chopped to about 12 inches. I don't have pic yet but a lot of it's branches were dead and slowly regenerating. So I thought I have a clean start with it and pruned it.

Julie and Pickering

I ate my first 'Julie' in probably 40 years. I was happy that it was delicious. Because the tree was small the fruit was tiny. It was only ripe on one side but man it was good! I wish I had a full sized tree.

This is my last 'Pickering'. It was sweet and fiberless. This skin was super thin and can be eaten. I discovered that the seed inside had germinated and was pushing a root through the flesh. At first I though it was a worm but was glad to see that it was a tap-root. Hmmmm.

Last Harvest.

Its been freezing outside, so I moved my trees indoors. A few of my trees, I didn't move in and left by my south facing wall. They got frost damage and were brought in. Weird how cold it has gotten.

 

So my first pickering both ripened up and colored up more. It really tasted nice and I did detect a slight coconutty taste. However, the fruit was mild. I think if my tree was larger it could really make excellent flavorful fruit. Again it was fiberless!

The last pickering came off the tree with a little twist. So now it sits on the kitchen counter until ripen up some more.

I harvest the only Julie. Its small but I needed to prune the tree and repot. So off it came. It'll need to be ripened on the counter

I also harvested all the Valencia Prides and pruned the tree down to a stick. I needed to encourage new branches on this tree because the crotch in the branches were weak. Will post picks later. I hope it survives. It had frost damage (along with Graham, Carrie and little bit on Lancetilla).

Harvested my first 'Pickering' Mango.

Very colorful. Didn't expect it to be so colorful.

Waiting for it to ripen some more before eating. Don't want to repeat my Edward's experience.
