15 days for Lemon Zest.

Lemon Zest
There has been more shriveling but I still see leaf buds about the trunk/branches.
I still have high hopes it will make it. I snipped off the tips that were really brown or starting to go brown.

Day 12, Lemon Zest is pushing buds.

Lemon Zest
A whole bunch of leaves fell off, so I pulled off all the remainder that were brown or crispy. It looked rather bare but…
Lo and behold! I see buds pushing out.
I really hope they do grow out. Its a sign of recovery.
Will have to wait and see how it does. I took the bag off since there are hardly any leaves left.
I plan to let it grow out (if it does) and once I feel confident that its roots are okay, I'll think of pruning it down to be shorter.

Glenn & Lemon Zest

Glenn
Growth is really looking good.

Lemon Zest
Its day 11 after transplant and though it has lost a lot of leaves, most of the stem and branches are still green! Hurray.

The magic of plastic bags.

Lemon Zest
moved to work.
Although it has lost a lot of leaves and still not "out of the woods," Lemon Zest is looking okay for being in transplant shock. I am convinced that I could have saved Orange Sherbet with a huge plastic bag. Oh well, you live and learn. The good thing is the trunk and most of the stems still remain green and so are a handful of leaves.
I cut off or pulled off the dead leaves. Then laced the plastic bag back over the branches to keep humidity high.
Jan 18th update: its been 11 days, so I am starting to feel pretty good about LZ's surviving. I am starting to feel a pattern when compared to my other mango transplants. That after 10 days being given humidity after repotting, the chances of surviving goes way up.

Julie, Glenn & Carrie

Julie
Although I only have one of my Julies pictured, both are flowering.

Glenn
Now that he's growing, he is showing a lot of vigor. I guess he took its time to build up enough energy for big shoots.

Carrie
Doing good.
voila.

Its time for transplant shock.

The leaves are becoming dry and crumply. I've put a bag over it to stem the dehydration. I wish I had a bigger bag.

Let the scrubbing and repotting begin!

Lemon Zest
So this morning, around 10am, I armed myself with a tooth brush and a scotchbrite scouring pad, and with a little soap, scrubbed all the black fungal soot off of all the branches. I even tried to scrub off some of the mineral deposits on the leaves.
Now its looks nice and green! The dry california weather should keep it this way but just in case, I sprayed it down with a dose of fungicide.
Now the scary part. Bare-rooting and repotting.
I used about three buckets of water to loosen and wash off the soil around the root ball. I added KLN rooting hormone in the water in the hopes it might help.

The roots are pot bound. I broke a lot of fine roots to try to untangle some of the dense mass.
Its more opened up but now I'm gonna have to see how severe the transplant shock is going to be.

And here is Lemon Zest in its 5 gal. Gro Pot. I added Mycos, Azos and a good dose of Bioweed (seaweed additive) to get roots going.
What a handsome tree; so green in the sunlight, too bad its so tall. A part of me is hoping that the transplant shock might trigger it to produce growth via epicormic shoots lower on the trunk.
I have it in a bright spot in my bedroom and I'm gonna spray the leaves with a solution of KLN to try to get its roots going.

Lemon Zest is in the house.

The box Lemon Zest came in.
Here it is all wrapped up.
Lemon Zest is a big tree. Virtually the same size as my expensive but dead 7 gallon Orange Sherbet mango tree.
Its a lovely tree but I don't know what to do with such a big lovely tree? Should I prune it down??
Well, for now, I need to figure a way to keep it alive.
