New Alphonso & Julie Today

Well with the FedEx delay, it took about 8 days for the two mangoes from Plantogram to get here in California. I love Plantogram but I don't really like FedEx. I think they're slow.
Here are the photos. I replanted the two mangoes right away.
Julie #3's root system. Circling roots.
Alphonso out of his pot.
Alphonso's roots. Like Julie #3, his roots were tightly curled from circling its pot.
Here is Alphonso in his new Gro Pot. A lot of his leaves are damaged or wilted badly.

Although Julie looked better than Alphonso, she also had damaged and wilted leaves.
I feel confident they'll recover.

Broken leaves cut off.

Might cut off Alphonso's top twig to shorten it.

Hmmm, Time for tipping.
I actually spent nearly an hour with a knife scraping off scale bugs off their leaves. Alphonso had more bugs than Julie.

Manila really growing!

Manila's new leaves are full size leaves! Gosh, I've been so used to stunted leaves that seeing full ones surprized me. When I came into work after the holiday, I found the soil dried out. There was some shriveling on Manila but I hope the watering I gave it would replenish it.
Nothing much happening with the Tebows
Julie dropped her new leaves at the top. How sad. She is still holding on to her two leaves at the middle.
The gang. The air at work seemed extra dry. I kept getting static shock all day.
Hurray.

Update November 23rd.

Manila is really putting out some lovely healthy leaves. Way more vigorous than my other mangoes. I wonder why?

Julie's little flowers have opened and they are cute.
Tebows are the same.
New bamboo stick to straighten him out.
Hurray.

Tebow bros

Tebow, more of the same. I did find a caterpillar that built a silk cocoon between one of its leaf against the glass. It kind of ate some of the leaf. I had to kill it... no one screws around with my mangoes. ;-)
I tied a stick to bent Tebow to try to straighten him out. Will need a longer stick.
Photographed with the flash off.
Picture of the gang.
I will be getting an Alphonso and another Julie in the future. Will post about them when it arrives.

Julie

Julie has lost most of her new leaves but her flowers are still going "strong."
I wonder when will she flush new leaves again?

Update: Again, just to say that the damage to her leaves were caused by spider mites.

Manila Mango growth

Manila's growth is vigorous. Wow.
Why don't the Florida mango trees do the same?

Julie with flowers.
Close up.
Tebow. Wonder when they will bud?
Manila's shoots are still going.
Hurray.

Sprayed with Exel Fungicide

Sprayed Julie down with fungicide.
(Update): I just checked today on November 8th, that the new growth on Julie's right (of picture below) is actually a tiny flower panicle! How crazy!
Some of the leaves are curled or warped. Looking big though.
Waiting for the Tebow brothers to start putting out.
Here is the whole gang.
Julie #2 is totally dead. Took her blackened remains home. Like Edward, the rootstock was still alive but it had rejected the graft. Sad.

Anthracnose, AGAIN?!

Update: I realize now that it was spider mites that caused all my damage to my Julie's new leaves.

I check on Julie today and was surprised to discover anthracnose on her young leaves. I couldn't believe that even in a dry environment at the studio, that this fungus would still antagonize my little mango tree. Some of Julie's new leaves are becoming deformed and curled from these tiny brown spots. Well, anyway, I mixed a fresh batch of Exel Fungicide (with a little bit of SM-90) to spray the leaves with and a quart of fish and seaweed fertilizer for all the mangoes. Will try to grab photos. Regardless, the new leaves from Julie are bigger than the tiny leaves it had grown during the cold spell here in Northern California.

Manila Mango growth

I didn't take any pics but I saw that manila is enjoying being on the window sill at work. Its showing buds popping out in four (from what I could see) different spots. It took forever for Manila to do this when planted in my garden; probably because of the cold weather, and yet even with damaged roots its taking off. So heat is a big influence along with Roots Organics Soil-less medium and Gro Pot.
Pics taken November 6th.

Julie's new leaves doing good.

I am hoping that Julie's new leaves will be bigger than the tiny ones it had put out. Will keep an eye on it.

Hello.
