Growth Flushes.

Well Monday morning, I saw that growth has happened over the weekend. I think that placing it in a sunny room with longer daylight hours has been the biggest reason for this development. More sunlight, more growth.
Go Glenn, go! I might have to pinch some of these shoots.

Hurray, Southern Blush is showing growth. Its still rotting from above but I'll prune it off when the buds get bigger.

Lancetilla is showing growth from top to near bottom. I didn't see them when I took these photos but afterwards, I noticed it was budding all over.

Valencia Pride is showing growth too. The two buds on the left picture suddenly came to life. On the right, more growth that's bending towards the sun. I had to put her pot on the floor so she can grow a little more straight. Also she's growing a bud about 8 inches from the graft. I also tried notching mid-way on her two branches to try to encourage more branching.

More photos.

Photo of gang again but a little more in focus.

I cut off the rotten tip on Southern Blush. Added cinnamon powder to cut.

I strapped a bamboo stick to Glenn to try to straighten him out. I'm guessing he was growing in some back row of mangoes and his angle was an attempt at trying to reach the sun?

Lancetilla is showing a little bud but then not sure if it was already there?

Here is Valencia Pride. Showing some budding. I am thinking of notching her two branches to get it to branch even further. But I read that notching a weak tree can kill it. So I am thinking of waiting till after a growth flush.

Pickering's one leaf is wilting. The stem still looks good. I know the green stem can still photosynthesize but without a leaf, I don't know how it will do from here on out.

My original Julie is still going.

Guest office mango.

I sometimes hate my camera when it frustratingly focuses on the parking lot rather than the subject in the foreground.

Another move.

Today I moved Julie #4, Graham, Carrie, Glenn, Valencia Pride, Lancetilla, Southern Blush and the Youngs (aka Tebows) to my producer's temp office. It gets about 12 hours of sunlight, much more than where they previously were (about 4 hours). I still have Julie #1, Pickering and Manila by my desk. I think I have enough space for one more mango in the temp office. I'll move Pickering there once it shows new growth.
Will post pics once I take my camera to work.

Mangoes at work pictures, Jan 24th.

Hurray, Glenn pushing out new growth.

Valencia Pride showing some new growth too.

Oh boy, Pickering looks severe. Down to one leaf.

Southern Blush.

Julie #1 & Manila. Sprayed them down with spider mite pesticide.

All mangoes are now at work.

Today I moved both Southern Blush and Carrie (as well as my living room ivy) all to work.
I saw that Pickering dropped all its leaves except three. Pretty dramatic, no doubt due to the super dry atmosphere at the office but I hope its okay.
Glenn is pushing a whole bunch of new growth; definitely a vigorous guy.
Valencia Pride is budding.
The rest haven't shown much activity.
Young/Tebow is still pushing out new buds.
Julie #1 put out a new tiny flush of leaves near the base. Will see how they do.
Spent most of my time at work watering my plants. Will post photos later.

Southern Blush pushing new growth!!

Hazzah! I saw it quite by accident but its SB pushing out new growth! At least I hope it is. High hopes SB will have new leaves for photosynthesis.
I also hope more will push out and make balanced branches on either side of the stem/trunk.

Carrie & Southern Blush planted into 5-gallon Gro Pots.

Carrie and her roots. She showed new root growth, so I'm optimistic that she'll keep doing well. I feel KLN really has been a big contributor to this. Oh, and foliar feeding really works!

Southern Blush and her roots. I transplanted my two plants at night so I wasn't sure but I thought I saw new roots on SB but I think I damaged them? I did accidentally ripped off the lower roots when trying to wash off the dirt ball. I'm amazed SB still held onto her single leaf.

Tipping Carrie.

I tipped Carrie more so that branching would occur a little bit more lower than what I would get from my last "tipping."
A picture of my Southern Blush down to one leaf. Still green, so it ought to be okay.
I found out that my Gro Pots are in.  Hope to pick it up Saturday morning before going into work.

Young (a.k.a. Tebow) are pushing new buds.

 New buds swelling.
Not as prominent but also swelling buds.

Severe Pruning My Mangoes!

I gave up. I couldn't wait. I figured that if my young trees survived till now, it must be okay to prune it. I decided to prune them to half their size so I can get branching and a more bushy shape. I feel like I just punched a helpless child in the face, its that traumatizing. I am such a botanical wuss.
Here are the results.
The Class photo. Graham, Glenn, Julie, Lancetilla & Valencia Pride.

I pruned off the two dead branches of Valencia Pride. Now its a 'Y' shape.

Here is Lancetilla before the prune.
This is what it looks like after. Oh boy.

Here is Glenn before his prune.
And here is Glenn now with just one leaf.

Pickering before & after.

Graham before & after.
Close up of Graham's prune cut.

Here is the cut pieces tied together with a green bow and placed in a glass bowl. I could bring myself to throw them out so I wrapped them as a floral arrangement. Interestingly, I can see the latex sap seeping out into the bowl. Notice that the water is a bit milky.
