Clean up pruning.

Southern Blush, with a messy prune. I cut off the black parts but found some rot and I scrapped it out with a utility knife. The brown powder is cinnamon. I unfortunately knocked off its last leaf. I hope it doesn't need it now. Doh.

Pickering's top is dying. I'm guessing its in response to the absence of leaves. I read that fruit trees will abort branches that don't have photosynthesizing leaves (which explains a lot about my past trees). I'm still hoping that shoots will grow in the upper nodes and stop the downward die-back.

Pruned off the extra stub on Lancetilla. Unlike the other guys, it was still green and healthy. But to be safe, I pruned it according to what I read online.

Minor pruning on VP. I know understand why its other two branches died back; they didn't have leaves.

I tried to prune off the top stub on Glenn but couldn't get much because of fear of damaging the new growth. Like some of the others, its stub was turning black; although not as much.

Here is little original Julie. One of her tiny branch is dying back because it had no leaves. I am hoping the longer daylight hours will encourage growth.

Weekend growth

Valencia Pride's growth over the weekend.

Glenn now looks like a palm tree or a dust mop.

Hurray, Pickering is pushing growth.

Lancetilla is good.

'Young' mangoes trying to push out growth slowly.

Carrie making effort.

Hurray for Southern Blush's heroic buds!

The growth continues…

Glenn doing well.

Valencia Pride also good.

Lancetilla following in third place. Its the only pruned tree that is showing some sort of growth all along the length of the stem. Interesting.

Southern Blush also encouraging. That rotten prune-cut is freaking me out a bit though.

Naked without leaves, Pickering is trying to create leaves; I hope.

 Glenn

Not much going on with Graham.

 Southern Blush

 Carrie maybe pushing growth?

Lancetilla

Had to prune Pickering some more as the top was rotting. He's also seeping a resin. I'm worried it might have gummosis? Will have to spray with fungicide and keep checking on him.

Three different views of Valencia Pride's shoots.

Young (aka Tebow) doing good.

Growth Flushes.

Well Monday morning, I saw that growth has happened over the weekend. I think that placing it in a sunny room with longer daylight hours has been the biggest reason for this development. More sunlight, more growth.
Go Glenn, go! I might have to pinch some of these shoots.

Hurray, Southern Blush is showing growth. Its still rotting from above but I'll prune it off when the buds get bigger.

Lancetilla is showing growth from top to near bottom. I didn't see them when I took these photos but afterwards, I noticed it was budding all over.

Valencia Pride is showing growth too. The two buds on the left picture suddenly came to life. On the right, more growth that's bending towards the sun. I had to put her pot on the floor so she can grow a little more straight. Also she's growing a bud about 8 inches from the graft. I also tried notching mid-way on her two branches to try to encourage more branching.

More photos.

Photo of gang again but a little more in focus.

I cut off the rotten tip on Southern Blush. Added cinnamon powder to cut.

I strapped a bamboo stick to Glenn to try to straighten him out. I'm guessing he was growing in some back row of mangoes and his angle was an attempt at trying to reach the sun?

Lancetilla is showing a little bud but then not sure if it was already there?

Here is Valencia Pride. Showing some budding. I am thinking of notching her two branches to get it to branch even further. But I read that notching a weak tree can kill it. So I am thinking of waiting till after a growth flush.

Pickering's one leaf is wilting. The stem still looks good. I know the green stem can still photosynthesize but without a leaf, I don't know how it will do from here on out.

My original Julie is still going.
